Evolving Creativity in the Maya of Chiapas

Dr. Patricia Greenfield will speak about her recent book examining the cognitive and socialization processes involved in transferring weaving knowledge across three generations of Zinacantec Maya women in Chiapas, Mexico under conditions of rapid economic change.

Dr. Greenfield received her Ph. D. from Harvard University and is currently Professor of Psychology at UCLA, where she is a member of the developmental psychology group. Her central theoretical and research interest is in the relationship between culture and human development. She is Founding Director of the FPR-UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development and is currently a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford, CA.
